5 things to do when you want to get in better shape
Getting in shape and feeling the best is hard to do. However, with a few tips, you can make the process much easier for yourself. If you are ready to change your life and feel SO great about yourself, start with these 5 things to do when you want to get in better shape:
Abs are made in the kitchen
Have you ever heard the phrase, “abs are made in the kitchen.”? Well, it’s true. Although exercise is a HUGE factor when it comes to getting in better shape, what you eat is just as important. Why? Because if you eat cake and pasta for every meal, you are probably not feeling the best – and your health isn’t the best either. It doesn’t matter how much you are exercising or spending outside, you just cannot get fully better because you are not eating foods that benefit your overall health and wellness. Where should you start? All throughout the cold winter months, you probably focused on comfort food like stews, soups, and more. For vegetables, you probably opted for heartier options like potatoes, cabbage, and broccoli. This definitely isn’t bad, but now that spring is here, it’s time to make the switch to crunchy salads using fresh and seasonal ingredients, and a fresh, fruit and vegetable smoothie, instead of the warm, oatmeal you are probably more accustomed to right now. There’s no doubt about it. Eating a fresher and lighter diet is one of the best ways to feel healthier and improve your mood. I follow the phrase, “eat right, feel amazing.” One thing to keep in mind, though? Don’t necessarily reduce the amount you are eating. Why? Because you do not want to hurt your metabolism, which can definitely take a hit if and when you reduce the amount you are eating or the quality of foods you are eating. Just focus on the foods you are eating – making better swaps whenever possible!
Set aside quality time to exercise each day
Next up: exercise. If you want to get in better shape and feel better about yourself, you absolutely need to set aside quality time to exercise each day. Start slow and focus on just walking. Each morning or evening (whichever works better for you), begin walking. Walk for a minimum of 30 minutes each day to feel your best. Once you get the hang of that, implement some weight lifting in your routine, or bodyweight workouts. This is incredibly good for your health and it will make you look and feel so much better, too!
Set goals and spread the news
When you are working towards a goal of getting in better shape and feeling better, spread the news. This is beneficial for many reasons, but my top 2 favorite reasons are 1) your friends and family members can help keep you accountable and 2) hopefully they will join you (more on this below). But, when you set goals and then spread the news and fill your friends in, they can help you stay on track. When you are struggling with a goal, reach out to them and see if they have ideas on ways that you can get there. The process of getting in better shape is hard and it does not happen overnight. Have a great, dependable tribe there for you. It makes a huge difference!
Team up with friends
Part 2 of that, like I mentioned, is having your friends and/or family members join you on your journey. If they also want to feel better and get in better shape, they can join you, and you can walk the path of this journey together. Trust me – everything is better with friends!
Work on your mindset
Last but not least, work on your mindset. If you have a goal to lose 10 pounds, but you aren’t there mentally, you will fail. Sorry, I’m not sugar-coating it, but it’s true. You have to want to work hard – physically and more importantly, mentally. If you are struggling with it, a great idea is to reach out to Pure Hypnosis | Sean Wheeler. He can help!
