6 ways to improve your health this summer
Are you ready to improve your health this summer? Start with these 6 ways. This list is your go-to for helping you improve your health NOW!
Get outside more
Oh, the benefits of the sun – there are so many! Unfortunately, we have been taught to fear the sun, but the sun can provide you with many health benefits like improved immunity, improved blood pressure, improved mood, and it has also been shown to decrease levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Being in nature can have a profound positive impact on a person’s sympathetic (i.e., fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) nervous systems. Essentially, people feel less stressed and more rested. Interestingly, some doctors are even prescribing walking outdoors as part of their patient’s treatment plans for managing stress and anxiety.
Add in 30 minutes of exercise daily
When you add in 30 minutes of exercise, you might think that means that you need to weightlift or do intense cardio for 30 minutes without stopping. That is far from true! Everyone is at a different stage with their fitness levels and 30 minutes of exercise could mean 30 minutes of walking for you or 30 minutes of weight-bearing activities. Even 30 minutes of dancing! It does NOT need to be a specific hardcore exercise class – trust me.
Drink more water and improve hydration
I’ve never really understood how 8 glasses of water are standard for everyone. In my eyes, the more water, the better. Water flushes out your organs, can improve your skin, and provides so many other benefits to your overall health. No matter how much you drink every day, it’s always a good rule of thumb to add at least 1 extra glass of water each day. Now, if you are drinking over a gallon already, this is probably hard. But anything under, go for it!
Get your teeth cleaned
Health starts in your mouth, with your teeth and gums. Finding a great dentist and going to routine cleanings is a MUST. However, it’s important to know that sometimes, dental health goes past routine cleanings. You might need to find a place for wisdom teeth removal in Decatur GA, or a place for orthodontics. No matter your needs, Metro Decatur Dental Group PC has you covered. Dr. Simms is known for his gentle hands and calming spirit. Their clinic accepts insurance, they use innovative technology (all of their surgeries are furnished with state-of-the-art equipment), and more importantly, they have guaranteed success. They say, “Most of our treatments are covered by a long-term guarantee which will be discussed with you before beginning treatment.” Dr. Simms has over 30 years of dental experience and experience with implants, as well. He is an expert in all facets of dentistry.
Create a garden
Creating a garden is a fantastic way to 1) save money, 2) eat cleaner and healthier, and 3) get outside and stay more active. It’s seriously a win-win-win-win and gardening is SO much fun. It can become something that really becomes a hobby of joy for you and for your family members, as well.
Healthy food starts in the morning
Food is fuel and if you are treating your food as supplements, then you more than likely are already having a healthy breakfast to start off with, but this is so important! Eating breakfast ‘breaks the fast’ you’ve put your body through during sleep, allowing your glucose supply to replenish and your energy to boost. It will also give your metabolism the jump start it needs to burn calories throughout the day. Plus, you’ll be likely to consume less fat throughout the day.
Research shows that breakfast eaters have a better memory and focus and are less likely to become overweight. The American Heart Association, as well as plenty of other health organizations, supports the importance of breakfast in relation to health. It seems like a no-brainer that everyone would make a point of eating breakfast, but sadly that’s not the case.
