Cranberry and Popcorn Bird and Wildlife Garland
I love it when any of the grandkids come to see me and I got lucky this weekend. I made some fun cranberry and popcorn bird garland with Alyssa and Abby and we strung them on one of my hedges for the birds. This is such a fun and simple thing to do and it helps to feed the wildlife during the cold winter months. After seeing what we made, my neighbor’s kids asked if they could make some and after I restock on more cranberries, I’m going to show them how to make them as well. Our popcorn was made from whole kernels on top of the stove and because our local shopping center only has one brand of popcorn, we ended up with popcorn that was tiny and falling off of the string. Next time, I will find kernels that create jumbo popped corn, if that is even possible. I’m sure microwave popcorn would work just as well as making it the traditional way, on the stovetop however my grandkids really love making popcorn on the stove.
We used quilting thread because I didn’t have any fishing line. I think clear fishing line works better, but I didn’t want to go out and buy something I would only use once a year when I already had quilting thread. We used upholstery needles. Embroidery needles work just as well. After I threaded everyone’s needles and added a nice big knot at the bottom of the thread, it was all fun from that point on. And the fun began. Unfortunately, it’s time to get a new cell phone that takes good photos so these photos leave much to be desired in the way of memorable photos.
